AMERICAN PAINT HORSE
American
Paint Horses, are well know in the United States for
their quality, athleticism, agreeable disposition and,
distinct coat pattern. Whats more they are growing
in popularity in the UK. So much so that the American
Paint Horse Association (APHA) has recently granted
a Charter to a new Association, the UK Paint Horse Association
(UK PHA) who are promoting the breed in the UK.
For some "American Paint Horse"will conjure
up a picture in the mind of westerns and cowboys, for
those in "the know" there will also be pictures
of racing, show jumping, dressage, in fact almost any
equine discipline you can think of.
More and more equine enthusiasts are seeing the potential
of this breed. Celebrating it's 40th year - The APHA
is one of the fastest growing horse breed registries
in the world. Since it's founding in 1962, APHA has
registered more than 650,000 horses. In the last 10
years alone, APHA has registered more than 450,000 horses.
Can any colourful horse be registered with the APHA?
No, there are bloodline requirements:
Sire: must be APHA, AQHA or Jockey Club registered.
Dam: must be APHA, AQHA or Jockey Club registered.
What is the difference between a Paint and a Pinto?
The Pinto Horse Association (PtHA) registers horses
from a broad range of breeds that meet minimum colour
requirements established by the PtHA.
The American Paint Horse Association registers only
horses with a pedigree from the APHA, American Quarter
Horse Association or Jockey Club (U.S. Thoroughbred
registry) and that meet APHA minimum colour requirements.
If you want to join UK PHA or know more about the Paint
breed go to the UK PHA website www.ukpha.co.uk.
