Ponies
The
Dales Pony originated from the Upper Dales of the Eastern
Pennines and are probably descendents of Fresian horses
introduced in Roman times.
It was used for farmwork and carting, particularly
in the lead mines. With mechanisation, its numbers dropped
dramatically.
Origin: Eastern Pennines, England.
Colour: Usually black, also brown and
bay, occasionally grey.
Height: 13.2 - 14.2 hands.
Conformation: Small, neat head, strong
deep body, short, straight cannons, hard, well-shaped
feet, silky feathers.
Character: Intelligent, calm.
Uses: Riding and driving.
