IRISH
DRAFT
Ireland's
draught horse dates back to Norman times when imported
horses were crossed with smaller native animals. Later
crosses included Andalusian, to produce an allrounder,
suitable for riding, pulling a trap or working on a
small farm.
Now renowned as a heavyweight hunter, and crossed with
the thoroughbred to produce quality hunters and competition
horses.
Origin: Ireland.
Colour: Bay, brown, chestnut and
grey.
Height: 15 - 17 hands.
Conformation: Neat head, on strong, short
neck, powerful body, strong legs, large round feet.
Character: Sensible, willing, docile.
Uses: Hunting, cross-breeding.
