THE PALOMINO
This
is a type rather than a breed - although it is recognised
as a breed in the USA. It does not breed true to colour.
Horses of this striking colour have been highly valued
over many centuries. Today's palominos developed from
Spanish imports to the USA.
Origin: USA.
Colour: Gold, with white mane and tail
(no more than 15 percent darker colours allowed). White
markings on legs allowed.
Height: Over 14 hands.
Conformation: For registration with the
PHBA, must be of quality riding horse type - no pony
or draught horse characteristics.
Character: Variable, but generally tractable.
Uses: Riding, trekking, cattle, display
work.
