Unlike any other herbicide, Barrier H destroys ragwort at all stages of growth at any time of the year - right through to the very root, even in winter months because it is not affected by extreme heat or cold weather. However, Barrier H should be applied on dryer days to prevent regrowth.

Don't Forget! That ragwort grows from the root as well as the seed. All the time spent digging, hand pulling or cutting the more mature plants in the summer months can result in encouraging the spread of ragwort, because each break in the root can produce lots of new plants resulting in many new plants in place of the one just pulled. If you must pull ragwort, always wear protective gloves.

Nothing else on the market works so quickly or as well - It is unique because of the speed of action destroys ragwort, right down to the root. Within hours of application, rosettes begin to blacken and wilt. Small plants are usually completely destroyed within 24/48 hours.

Exclusion from grazing - We recommend that grazing animals are kept away from treated areas for 2 weeks or until the ragwort is completely dead. Remove any remaining debris. This is not because Barrier H is harmful but because dying ragwort becomes more palatable and dangerous to animals.

Barrier H can be used throughout the winter months - Eliminate this frightful weed as it appears. During the winter, many weeds and grasses die and Ragwort rosettes are more visible. These can be spot treated and prevent flowering Ragwort next year.

Ragwort campaigns are now making a mark, with the unveiling of a new code of practice by Rural Affairs Minister Alun Michael - also the new Minister for the Horse. The code of practice has been drawn up in preparation for the Ragwort Control Bill, which will make it an offence for landowners, local authorities etc to let this frightful plant run riot. A copy of the draft can be obtained from DEFRA's web site www.defra.com, and interested organisations are invited to comment by 26th September, 2003.

The BHS have two new leaflets which you can obtain FREE. 'A Guide to Ragwort for Horse Owners' and 'A Guide to Ragwort for Landowners and Occupiers.' Send them an A5 sae to the BHS, Welfare Dept, Stoneleigh Deer Park, Kenilworth, Wark. CV8 2XZ, marking the envelope with the leaflet of your choice.
