VETERAN HORSE SOCIETY INTRODUCES WINTER SHOWING CLASSES

Due to the popularity of the Veteran Horse Society (VHS) Summer showing classes, the Society is now introducing their veteran showing classes throughout the winter.

Linda McLintock who heads the showing office in Powys said:
“I have been inundated by Members and show secretaries requesting classes through the winter months and as the summer shows have proved a huge success, we have agreed to hold our classes through the winter.

With the popularity of the VHS, many owners are now appreciating that their veteran is no longer written off at the age of 15, but taken very seriously and the Society have certainly given them a real reason to keep their veterans fit and healthy throughout the year.”

Julianne Aston, Founder and Director of the VHS, Julianne Aston commented:
“Since the launch in 2001 the Society has just grown beyond any belief, which is excellent for the profile and care of the older horse. Owners and carers who are joining, really have a great affinity for the Society and keep their horses extremely well and fit, with this in mind we feel that winter showing classes will give those members who are able to keep their veterans fit and well over the winter, another interest in those long dark months. We will of course be very aware of the veterans needs, including clipping and travelling during colder months. We hope to show how veterans can look as good as their younger companions in every season.”

Regulations within the VHS classes will remain as they do during the summer months and Membership should be obtained 14 days prior to the area qualifier. Members qualifying after September of each year will qualify for their regional final for the following year, unless stated, and giving them a once in a life time chance to take their ‘older horse or pony’ to Olympia.

Tickets for Olympia 2005 are now on sale and the heat is building to find this years Supreme Champion Veteran horse or pony, which is currently held by Tamarnie aged 22 and ridden by Tracey Peters.
